Atlantis is an island that ancient Greek philosopher Plato described as inhabited by an advanced civilization. The island reportedly sank in 24 hours, around 9600 BCE. It is unclear whether Plato was speaking in metaphor, or describing a historical event.

Some people believe that Antarctica is actually Atlantis. It is argued that because Antarctica was not covered in ice at one point, it may have been home to an ancient civilization. Others believe the crustal displacement theory explains that Antarctica was only recently covered in ice 12,000 years ago. The crustal displacement theory states the Earth’s crust moved and shifted dramatically approximately 2,000 miles, about 12,000 years ago.

This theory is not accepted by conventional science.

However scientific evidence suggests Antarctica experienced a “cold reversal” between 14,500 to 13,300 years ago, after which, a rapid warming phase occurred.

NASA’s Operation Icebridge

NASA’s Operation Icebridge is a 6-year aerial survey of the Earth’s polar ice. Its mission is to gather data on the changes of glaciers ice sheets, and the thickness of sea ice to further understand how polar ice and the global climate are interconnected. This data is also being used to predict Earth’s climate changes. Some believe that images from their survey serve as evidence of an ancient civilization that existed 12,000 years ago when Antarctica’s ice had largely melted. This theory is also supported by the unproven crustal displacement theory. There is little evidence to prove NASA’s images are confirmation of an ancient civilization of an ancient civilization aside from Antarctica’s “suspicious geographical features captured by NASA.

Pyramids in Antarctica

UFO theorists believe that there is evidence of pyramids in Antarctica. They believe this is possible by the colonization of ancient astronauts before Antarctica entered the ice age. However, UCI professor of Earth system science Eris Rignot, says it is “just a mountain that look like a pyramid… Pyramid shapes are not impossible-many peaks look like pyramids.”

The Piri Reis Map

This map was made in 1513 by Ottoman admiral Piri Reis. In 1929, the map was allegedly rediscovered in the Imperial archives of Constantinople. Some believe the map depicts Antarctica before it was covered in ice. Others theorize that was made by an ancient alien civilization thousands of years ago. Some theorists believe that whatever civilization drew it either had advanced knowledge of spherical trigonometry, or drew it looking down from space. However these theories do not take into account how an ancient map cloud be preserved well. Before advanced printing techniques, maps were copied and recopied by hand, making it possible for historians to trace errors by comparing maps. If this map were so ancient and yet so accurate, it would have influenced many maps, yet there is no clear trace of the map’s descendants.
